The BYD Atto 3 Evo is now available in the UK, starting at just under £39,000, bringing significant performance upgrades to the Chinese automaker’s first UK offering. The Evo builds on the foundation laid by the original Atto 3 in 2023, but with a notable increase in power and efficiency.
Performance and Range
The base-level Design trim, priced below £39,000, boasts a 309bhp rear-mounted electric motor and a 74.8kWh ‘blade’ battery. This configuration allows for a 0-62mph acceleration in 5.5 seconds, alongside a combined WLTP range of 316 miles – an improvement of 55 miles over the previous model.
For those seeking more power, the £42,730 Excellence trim adds a front-axle electric motor, pushing total output to 443bhp. This results in a 0-62mph time of just 3.9 seconds, outperforming even some supercars like the Ferrari F430. However, the additional power slightly reduces the range to 292 miles.
Charging and Technology
BYD has upgraded the Atto 3 Evo to an 800V architecture, doubling the maximum charging speed from 110kW to 220kW. This allows for a 10-80% charge in approximately 25 minutes. The interior features an upgraded 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a large, fixed 15.6-inch touchscreen with full Google integration, including Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. Standard equipment includes wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, and heated leather front seats. Excellence models gain additional features such as a head-up display, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Design and Practicality
Exterior styling updates include a new front bumper, revised window graphics, and updated rear lights. The interior receives minor changes, such as a new steering wheel and gear shifter. Crucially, the boot capacity has increased by 50 liters to 490 liters, surpassing even the Skoda Elroq’s 470-liter capacity. A front trunk (‘frunk’) provides an additional 95 liters of storage, while folding the rear seats unlocks a total of 1,390 liters of space. The improved performance also increases the braked trailer rating to 1,500kg.
