Chery Exeed Exlantix MX: New Long-Range Hybrid SUV Targets BYD

5

Chery’s premium brand, Exeed, has launched the Exlantix MX (also known as the ET5 in China), a mid-size extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) designed to compete directly with popular models like the BYD Song L DM-i. Priced starting at around $19,070, this SUV stands out for its impressive range and advanced technology.

Key Specs and Pricing

The Exlantix MX is available in two configurations, with promotional pricing (including trade-in offers) beginning at 134,900 yuan ($19,070 USD). Standard retail prices range from 144,900 to 159,900 yuan ($20,500–$22,600 USD). This positions the Exlantix MX as a strong contender in the competitive Chinese automotive market.

Powertrain and Range

Unlike a traditional hybrid, the Exlantix MX utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine solely to generate electricity. This powers a 195 kW (262 hp) rear-mounted electric motor delivering 324 N·m (239 lb-ft) of torque. The vehicle’s 32.66 kWh LFP battery provides a 210 km (130 miles) pure-electric range and a total combined range of 1,310 km (814 miles), making it one of the longest-range EREVs in its price bracket.

The extended range is critical for consumers in regions with limited charging infrastructure or those who frequently undertake long journeys.

Exterior and Interior Design

Exeed’s latest design language is evident in the Exlantix MX’s sleek aesthetics. The vehicle features a closed front grille, shell-shaped headlights, and a continuous LED light bar at the rear. Its dimensions (4,780 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,720 mm high, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase) place it firmly in the mid-size SUV category. The top trim level includes a roof-mounted LiDAR module, signaling advanced driver-assistance capabilities.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by a triple-screen setup: a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger display. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 cockpit chip powers the infotainment system, while high-end trims feature Nappa leather, Alcantara accents, and seamless smartphone integration.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The flagship Exlantix MX model incorporates the Falcon 700 ADAS, powered by Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6P chip and HSD platform. This suite includes a LiDAR unit, 27 high-precision sensors, radar, and cameras, enabling highway and urban assisted driving, as well as automated parking in various scenarios.

The Exeed Exlantix MX represents a significant push from Chery’s premium sub-brand to capture market share in the rapidly growing EREV segment. Its combination of long range, competitive pricing, and advanced technology positions it as a serious alternative to established players like BYD.
