The Citroen e-C5 Aircross Long Range electric SUV has just become significantly more accessible to UK buyers, thanks to qualifying for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant (ECG). This government incentive drops the starting price to a competitive £32,935.
This price point makes the Citroen e-C5 Aircross Long Range compelling for families considering an electric vehicle. It undercuts the Tesla Model Y Long Range – a popular rival – by almost £16,000 despite offering greater range. The Citroen boasts a WLTP-certified 421 miles on a single charge, allowing for journeys like London to Manchester and back without needing a recharge. The Tesla Model Y Long Range manages only up to 387 miles.
Not all electric Citroëns qualify for the full grant. The entry-level Comfort Range model, with its 322-mile range, receives the smaller £1,500 ECG. This suggests that the Long Range version likely qualifies due to certain technical and environmental criteria, perhaps linked to the production of its battery cells in France.
The price difference between the Comfort Range and Long Range versions is minimal at just £370 after accounting for the grant. However, current offers through Citroen’s Buy A Car service might allow buyers to save up to £6,000 on the entry-level model.
Powertrain and Features
At its heart lies a 97kWh battery providing that impressive range. A 227bhp electric motor powers the front wheels. The car supports fast charging up to 160kW, meaning an 80% charge from 10% can be achieved in around half an hour.
The Citroen e-C5 Aircross Long Range will come in three trim levels: You, Plus, and Max. All versions come standard with advanced comfort suspension and seats designed for maximum occupant ease, along with 19-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch central touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charging pad, and adaptive cruise control.
The Plus trim level (starting at £35,575 after the ECG) upgrades the interior from standard Urban Grey fabric to a Metropolitan Blue scheme with premium materials. It also adds ambient lighting, keyless entry, and a 180-degree reversing camera for enhanced convenience.
Finally, the range-topping Max trim (starting at £38,215 after the ECG) includes an energy-saving heat pump, a head-up display for easy driver information access, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, hands-free powered tailgate, and Drive Assist Pack 2.0 for semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
Citroen’s aggressive pricing strategy combined with its commendable range makes the e-C5 Aircross Long Range a strong contender in the increasingly competitive electric SUV market. It positions Citroen as a serious player aiming to attract budget-conscious buyers seeking long-distance EV capability
