The Dodge Durango R/T 392 is back for 2026, bringing a powerful 475-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine to the three-row SUV market. This model represents a significant return of performance for the Durango lineup, previously seen in the now-discontinued SRT 392 variant.
Performance and Pricing
The new Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition boasts 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with Dodge claiming a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. While previous tests of similar models achieved slightly quicker times (4.1 seconds), the R/T 392 still offers impressive acceleration for a family vehicle.
Most notably, the 2026 R/T 392 is far more affordable than its predecessor. The Launch Edition starts at $51,990, almost $24,000 less than the 2024 Durango SRT 392’s original price of $75,590. This makes high-performance V-8 power accessible to a wider range of buyers.
Key Features and Upgrades
Beyond raw power, the Durango R/T 392 includes performance-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers for improved handling and stopping power.
The interior features nappa leather seats with microsuede accents, heated and ventilated front buckets, and heated captain’s chairs in the second row. An optional Premium trim, priced at $59,590 (or $51,990 without extras), adds a high-end 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, carbon-fiber trim, and improved brake rotors.
Market Implications
The Durango R/T 392’s return highlights a shift in Dodge’s strategy. By offering a high-performance engine in a more affordable package, the company is responding to consumer demand for both practicality and excitement. This move positions the Durango as a unique option in the SUV segment, where most competitors prioritize fuel efficiency or luxury over sheer power.
Dodge has opened orders across all 50 states, with deliveries expected later this year. The Durango R/T 392 delivers a blend of practicality and performance that is hard to match in the current SUV market.
