Alpine’s Electric Future: New A110 to Share Platform with Radical Renault 5 Turbo 3E

3

Alpine’s next-generation A110 sports car, set to launch next year, will leverage the same advanced platform as the high-performance Renault 5 Turbo 3E. This strategic decision, confirmed by Alpine CEO Philippe Krief, positions the iconic A110 for a bold electric future and a direct challenge to Porsche’s 911 dominance.

Shared Foundation for Performance

The new electric A110 will utilize the Alpine Performance Platform (APP) – a lightweight aluminum chassis designed to house a 70kWh battery pack behind the cockpit. This configuration ensures a low center of gravity, preserving the A110’s renowned driving dynamics while enabling a more aggressive, Formula 1-inspired seating position. The goal is to make the new model even sportier than today’s car.

Styling & Variants

While retaining familiar design cues from the original A110 Berlinette (quad headlights, mid-engine silhouette), the EV will sport a futuristic aesthetic. Alpine intends to expand the A110 lineup with multiple variants, strengthening the brand’s position as a premium performance contender.

Power & Potential

The electric A110 is expected to exceed the current A110 R Ultime’s 345bhp output. Initial models will feature dual rear-mounted electric motors, with the possibility of integrating in-wheel motors – a technology already proven in the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. This opens the door to a four-wheel-drive A110 variant with even higher power figures. The 5 Turbo 3E’s powertrain delivers a combined 533bhp, enabling sub-3.5-second 0-62mph acceleration and a 168mph top speed.

Pricing & Market Strategy

The 5 Turbo 3E carries a price tag of around £140,000, which could influence the pricing of high-performance A110 electric models. Alpine anticipates demand for these more powerful variants will grow, justifying the premium. The APP’s flexible design also allows for future powertrain options, including hydrogen propulsion.

This strategic alignment between Alpine and Renault signals a serious commitment to electrifying performance vehicles, positioning the A110 as a credible competitor in the high-end sports car market. The shared platform lowers development costs while maximizing performance potential.
