Ferrari Extends V8 Era with New Amalfi Spider Convertible

Ferrari is pushing forward with both electric and internal combustion development, releasing the new Amalfi Spider convertible just months after the coupe version. The Spider replaces the Roma Spider in the lineup and offers a continuation of V8 power despite the company’s shift towards fully electric models like the upcoming Lucce.

Design and Open-Top Engineering

The Amalfi Spider closely mirrors the coupe in design, carrying over the updated aesthetic details that include slimmer lights, a grille-less front end, and new 20-inch wheels. The retractable fabric roof is available in four tailored colors or two technical weaves and operates in 13.5 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h. Ferrari claims the five-layer construction provides sound and heat isolation comparable to hardtops, as seen in the discontinued Portofino.

Cabin Tech and Driver Modes

Inside, the Spider features a redesigned center console with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 8.8-inch passenger display. The vehicle also includes an ADAS suite and Ferrari’s Manettino system, allowing drivers to switch between Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, and ESC-Off driving modes.

Practicality: A Supercar Compromise

While designed for performance, the Amalfi Spider offers a modest 255 liters of trunk space (9 cubic feet) with the roof up. Lowering the roof reduces capacity to 172 liters (6.1 cubic feet), though this is unlikely to be a primary concern for buyers of this class.

Twin-Turbo Performance Figures

The Amalfi Spider is powered by a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 631 hp (471 kW / 640 PS) and 560 lb-ft of torque, matching the coupe and exceeding the Roma Spider by 20 hp. The engine delivers power through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the rear wheels. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 3.3 seconds, just like the coupe, while 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) is achieved in 9.4 seconds (compared to the coupe’s 9 seconds). Top speed remains at 320 km/h (199 mph).

The pricing for the Amalfi Spider has not yet been officially released, but it will likely be higher than the $283,000 starting price of the Amalfi Coupe in the United States.

Ferrari is strategically bridging the gap between its legacy V8 engines and its fully electric future with the Amalfi Spider. The new model extends the life of the internal combustion engine lineup while the company prepares for a full transition. This approach caters to both traditional enthusiasts and potential EV buyers, ensuring continued relevance in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
