Hyundai is preparing to launch an all-electric version of its striking Staria MPV in the United Kingdom, directly challenging rivals like the Kia PV5 and Ford E-Tourneo Custom. The vehicle, first revealed at the Brussels motor show, represents Hyundai’s largest electric offering to date and is designed for families, commercial fleets, and individuals with active lifestyles.
Design and Dimensions
The Staria Electric retains the distinctive, futuristic design of the standard Staria, which debuted in 2021. Its monolithic silhouette, wraparound LED light bar, and large sliding doors make it instantly recognizable. With a length of 5.25 meters, a height of 1.99 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.375 meters, the Staria offers ample space. It is configurable with either seven or nine seats, making it one of the most spacious EVs currently available.
Performance and Charging
The electric powertrain features an 84 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a range of up to 249 miles. The front-mounted electric motor delivers 216 horsepower. While Hyundai has not officially stated acceleration figures, estimates suggest a 0-62 mph time of around 8 seconds, with a top speed of 114 mph. The Staria Electric can also tow up to two tonnes.
Notably, the vehicle utilizes 800V charging technology—similar to Hyundai’s dedicated EV platforms like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6—allowing for rapid charging. The battery can be replenished from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes, indicating an average charging rate of around 180 kW. This fast-charging capability is unusual for a vehicle based on an internal combustion engine platform.
