SAIC’s premium electric vehicle (EV) brand, IM Motors, launched its largest SUV to date, the LS9, targeting the burgeoning market for luxurious long-range EVs in China. Priced from 332,800 yuan ($46,600 USD) to 362,800 yuan ($50,800 USD), the LS9 is designed as a flagship model showcasing IM Motors’ technological prowess and commitment to range-extending capabilities.

The standout feature of the LS9 is its “Stellar” Super Extended Range system. This technology blends a 1.5T engine with an electric motor and a 66 kWh battery, promising a combined driving range of up to 1508 kilometers (937 miles). Notably, this translates to a respectable 402 kilometers (250 miles) on pure electric power alone, addressing concerns about long-distance EV viability. IM Motors claims the vehicle achieves a fuel and electric consumption rate of just 2.81 liters per 100 kilometers (83 mpg).

A Futuristic Design with Practical Touches

Visually, the LS9 embraces an aggressive yet futuristic aesthetic. A distinctive “star-ring” light signature running across the front grille is paired with T-shaped headlights. The closed grille emphasizes its EV identity, while a trapezoidal air intake and chrome accents add a touch of sportiness.

The side profile highlights sharp lines and unique “pie-shaped” wheels. Electric running boards contribute to passenger comfort when entering and exiting the vehicle. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar spans the width of the SUV, complemented by a prominent spoiler and chrome trim.

Luxurious Interior Focused on Technology and Comfort

Inside, the LS9 continues its focus on technological sophistication and passenger luxury. It shares similarities with the IM LS6 in featuring dual 27.1-inch 5K MiniLED screens for driver information and entertainment, along with a smaller 15.6-inch 3K MiniLED screen dedicated to rear passenger entertainment.

The dashboard design incorporates integrated air vents for a streamlined look. A central armrest houses wireless charging capabilities, cup holders, and a convenient storage compartment beneath. Buyers can further personalize their LS9 experience by choosing between half-spoke or full-spoke steering wheels, both equipped with sliding rotary controls for ease of use. The second row boasts a “zero-gravity” seating mode on the right side, while a built-in refrigerator (capable of reaching temperatures from -6 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius) caters to passenger convenience. An advanced B&O sound system, cabin air filtration, and an outdoor adventure kit further elevate the LS9’s appeal.

Advanced Safety and Driving Assistance Features

Underpinning its cutting-edge image is a suite of high-tech safety and driver assistance features. The IM LS9 comes equipped with a 520-line LiDAR sensor and an Nvidia Thor autonomous driving chip, indicating the company’s focus on future autonomous capabilities.

The vehicle’s dimensions measure 5279mm in length, 2000mm in width, and 1806mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3160mm. Key to its driving dynamics is the “Lingxi Digital Chassis 3.0,” featuring a 24-degree ultra-wide-angle smart four-wheel steering system and 150mm travel closed dual-chamber air suspension, promising both agile handling and a refined ride.

The launch of the IM LS9 signals IM Motors’ ambition to compete at the top end of the Chinese EV market with its blend of luxurious comfort, advanced technology, and impressive range capabilities.
