Kia will unveil its all-new EV2, a compact electric SUV designed specifically for the European market, at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show on January 9th. Alongside the EV2, Kia will also showcase performance variants of its expanding EV lineup – the EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT. This launch is a key part of Kia’s strategy to dominate the competitive European EV sector.
Strategic Focus on Europe
The EV2 is not intended for sale in Korea, reflecting Kia’s targeted approach to different markets. According to CEO Song Ho-Sung, the smaller EV3 already serves the Korean entry-level segment; the EV2 is built solely for European consumers. This decision underlines the importance of tailoring vehicle offerings to regional preferences, and the EV2 will be manufactured at Kia’s Slovakia facility starting in 2026, taking over production from the discontinued Kia Ceed.
Market Positioning and Pricing
Kia aims to position the EV2 as its most affordable electric model, priced around €30,000 (£26,000). This pricing places it directly against rivals like the Citroen e-C3 and Volkswagen ID. Polo, setting the stage for a head-to-head battle in the burgeoning small EV segment. Further expansion of Kia’s EV range is also planned with the EV1, a smaller city car designed to compete with future Volkswagen ID.1 models.
Design and Interior Innovations
The production EV2 will closely resemble the concept unveiled earlier this year, according to Kia’s global design head Karim Habib. Teaser images confirm a nearly identical profile and signature “Star Map” lighting, while retaining SUV-inspired rugged styling.
Inside, the EV2 will prioritize spaciousness, potentially featuring a unique rear bench design – a folding, sliding, and reclining configuration inspired by the Honda Jazz. While rear-hinged doors are not confirmed for the EV2, Kia is exploring this feature for future models. The dashboard is expected to be minimalist with twin screens.
Battery and Performance
The EV2 will utilize Kia’s E-GMP platform, likely with a single-motor configuration. Battery options may include a 40kWh unit for urban driving and a larger 58kWh version, potentially offering a WLTP range exceeding 300 miles. The vehicle will also support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies, along with over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Kia’s aggressive push into the electric market underscores its commitment to becoming a leading EV brand in Europe. The EV2’s strategic positioning, competitive pricing, and innovative features are designed to capture a significant share of the growing electric SUV segment.
