Scout has unveiled a refined version of its Traveler Pacific Mist concept, showcasing a shift toward highly customizable vehicle designs. The updated study, first shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show, emphasizes personalization and practical accessories rather than radical changes to the core vehicle structure.
Chameleon-Like Paint Finish
The standout feature is the unique Pacific Mist paint job, developed in-house by Scout’s design team. This multi-layer finish appears to change color depending on the ambient light, shifting from silver under cloudy skies to blue in direct sunlight. According to Scout’s Director of Color, Materials, and Finish Design Aileen Barraza, the color is inspired by the coastal mists of the Pacific Coast.
Enhanced Off-Road Capability
The concept includes 22-inch black wheels paired with aggressive 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, reinforcing its adventure-ready image. Black door handles and a contrasting black roof further emphasize the rugged aesthetic.
Rear Storage “Backpack” Replaces Spare Tire
Perhaps the most innovative design element is the replacement of the traditional spare tire with a modular rear carrier dubbed a “backpack.” This unit features two compartments for wet or dry storage, offering a unique solution for cargo flexibility. Scout has indicated this accessory is likely headed for production, hinting at a broader range of customizable options in the future.
Interior Touches and Future Packages
The interior continues the theme of refined ruggedness with brown leather seats and denim-inspired accents. A two-tone steering wheel, metallic trim, and a retractable Cabana Top complete the look.
Scout has framed this concept as a preview of potential future packages, including distinct color schemes, trim levels, and gear systems designed for specific use cases. This approach suggests the company is moving toward offering highly tailored editions of its vehicles, allowing buyers to configure their SUVs to match their lifestyles.
The Traveler Pacific Mist concept signals that Scout is not just building SUVs but crafting customizable platforms for adventure. By prioritizing practical design choices and modular accessories, the company appears poised to capture a segment of the market that values both style and utility.
