Lotus distributor Simply Sports Cars has unveiled the Emira Turbo Bathurst Edition, a limited-run, high-performance variant tailored for the Australian market. The car boasts significant power upgrades and a substantially higher price tag than standard Emira models. This exclusive edition is capped at 15 units and is available for immediate order.
Performance Boost and Pricing
The Bathurst Edition starts at $249,990 AUD (before on-road costs), representing a $50,000 premium over the base Emira Turbo and a $40,000 increase over the Turbo SE.
The core of this upgrade lies in a retuned Mercedes-AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, now producing “more than 500hp” (375kW). While the exact torque figure remains undisclosed, Simply Sports Cars confirms a substantial increase. This makes it the most powerful factory-tuned version of this AMG engine currently available.
Track-Focused Enhancements
Beyond raw power, the Bathurst Edition receives a range of performance-oriented modifications:
- Adjustable Dampers: Three-way adjustable dampers for precise handling.
- Revised Alignment & Lower Stance: Optimized for track use.
- High-Performance Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires standard, with optional Yokohama A052s.
- Upgraded Brakes: AP Racing four-piston calipers and two-piece ventilated discs.
- Carbon Fiber Aerodynamics: A front splitter and rear wing inspired by the Emira GT4 race car.
These modifications indicate a clear focus on driving dynamics and performance, prioritizing track capability over everyday usability.
Styling and Exclusivity
The Bathurst Edition also features cosmetic updates: Bathurst Edition decals, GT4-inspired livery, and an individually numbered build plate. Buyers can customize their wheel color. The car debuted at Simply Sports Cars’ Bathurst Lotus Only Track Day, with demonstration laps at Mount Panorama.
The distributor has a history of Lotus involvement in Bathurst events since 2005, including prior entries in the Bathurst 12 Hour race.
Market Context and Sales Trends
The Lotus Emira competes directly with mid-engine sports cars like the Porsche Cayman. Australian sales of the Emira totaled 138 units in 2024, dropping to 60 in 2025 (a 56.5% decline).
Despite this, Simply Sports Cars reports strong interest in the Bathurst Edition, with only 14 build slots remaining after the first unit was sold. Purchasers receive complimentary entry to the next Lotus Bathurst track day in 2027.
The Bathurst Edition isn’t just a faster Emira; it’s a statement of intent from Simply Sports Cars, doubling down on a track-focused experience tailored for the Australian market. Given the market decline, this limited run could be a strategic move to maintain enthusiast engagement.
