An Australian enthusiast has taken possession of the first Maserati MCXtrema allocated for the local market, though this high-performance machine won’t be seen on public roads. Limited to just 62 units worldwide, the MCXtrema is strictly a track-day weapon, designed for racing circuits rather than everyday driving.
The vehicle was delivered in Modena, Italy, featuring a striking two-tone livery of Blu Nobile and Bianco Audace Matte, echoing Maserati’s signature Trident logo. Each MCXtrema is unique, with no two examples expected to be identical due to extensive customization options.
Power and Performance: Beyond the MC20
The MCXtrema represents Maserati’s most potent track car to date. It boasts a modified version of the marque’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 ‘Nettuno’ engine, now producing 540kW (724hp) – an increase from the MC20’s 463kW. Torque remains at 730Nm, but the upgraded output is achieved through revised turbochargers, a racing exhaust, and refined combustion calibration.
Power is delivered via a six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters, driving the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. The vehicle’s carbon-fiber monocoque and adjustable double-wishbone suspension further enhance its track capabilities.
Track-Focused Design and Safety Features
The MCXtrema’s dimensions are notably larger than the MC20, measuring 5199mm long and 2045mm wide, with a dry weight of approximately 1300kg. It rides on bespoke 18-inch center-lock forged aluminum wheels paired with racing slicks or wet tires. Carbon-fiber racing brakes with remote bias adjustment provide stopping power.
Safety is paramount: the MCXtrema includes an FIA-spec roll cage, safety nets, a fire extinguisher, and a roof hatch, alongside a fixed racing bucket seat with a six-point harness. An adjustable pedal box, steering column, and air conditioning are standard, with an optional passenger seat.
A Century of Racing Heritage
Maserati unveiled the MCXtrema concept in August 2023, selling out the entire production run immediately. Deliveries have begun worldwide, including the US, UK, France, and Taiwan. This Australian delivery arrives as Maserati prepares to celebrate 100 years of racing in 2026, commemorating Alfieri Maserati’s class victory at the 1926 Targa Florio with the Tipo 26.
“The Maserati MCXtrema is a piece of automotive history… reinforcing the confidence that our most discerning customers have for this iconic brand,” says Maserati Australia and New Zealand general manager Grant Barling.
The MCXtrema is not just a car; it’s a statement of exclusivity and a tribute to Maserati’s racing legacy. Its arrival in Australia marks a significant moment for the brand, solidifying its commitment to high-performance motorsport.
