Updated GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV Spotted in Australia: What to Expect in 2026

22

An updated version of the GWM Haval H6 GT plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) has been observed undergoing testing in Australia, signaling an anticipated launch in local dealerships within the next year. The vehicle showcases both interior refinements and powertrain upgrades, positioning it as a direct competitor to models like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and BYD Sealion 6.

Powertrain and Drivetrain Enhancements

The spotted H6 GT PHEV features “PHEV Hi4” badging, indicating the integration of GWM’s enhanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system currently available in the standard Haval H6 PHEV. This system delivers a combined output of 268kW and 760Nm, achieving a fuel consumption of 1.1L/100km. The vehicle retains its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission and dual electric motors for all-wheel drive capability.

Notably, the updated model boasts a larger 35kWh battery – an increase from the 19.09kWh unit in some earlier versions – matching the battery capacity of the outgoing Australian Haval H6 GT PHEV. This larger battery contributes to improved electric range, with claims of up to 170km on the WLTP cycle. Some reports suggest even higher outputs, with figures ranging up to 380kW and 772Nm in certain markets.

Interior Upgrades

The interior of the updated H6 GT PHEV features several key improvements. A larger 14.6-inch central touchscreen replaces the current 12.3-inch unit, running GWM’s faster Coffee OS 3 software. This upgrade brings enhanced responsiveness and new features, including AI-based voice command and integration with the GWM Connected Services smartphone app, previously available on the Tank 500.

The app allows remote control of vehicle functions such as door locks, horn, lights, climate control, and seat heating/ventilation. The cabin also receives a redesigned steering wheel and a simplified center console, though physical buttons remain for essential controls. The digital instrument cluster remains at 10.25 inches.

Market Context and Timing

GWM Australia has not yet confirmed the update’s timing, but industry expectations point to a launch in the second quarter of 2026 (April–June). The brand has been proactively promoting its Hi4 and Hi4T AWD systems locally, aligning with tightening emissions regulations.

The Haval H6 series, including the H6 and the sportier H6 GT, was the second-best-selling range for GWM Australia in 2025, trailing only the Haval Jolion. GWM recorded record sales in the country last year, finishing seventh overall with a 23.4% year-over-year increase.

The updated Haval H6 GT PHEV is expected to maintain a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds, consistent with the current model. With these improvements, the vehicle aims to further solidify GWM’s presence in the competitive Australian automotive market.
