10

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a significant facelift for the GLE large luxury SUV and its GLE Coupe variant, with Australian availability slated for 2027. The updates span both exterior styling and interior technology, positioning the vehicle for a competitive edge in the luxury segment.

Exterior Design Overhaul

The redesigned GLE adopts visual cues from the latest E-Class, most notably a striking new grille featuring a star-patterned field enclosed by either chrome or dark-tinted trim. The headlights have also been reworked with integrated star graphics, enhancing both aesthetics and visibility.
Optional extras include an illuminated grille frame and three-pointed star logo for added prominence. The lower bumper now incorporates black accents, linking the air intakes seamlessly. Rear tail-light clusters now feature star-shaped lighting as well, joined by a black strip with chrome detailing. The overall effect is a more sculpted, modern appearance.

Interior Tech: The Superscreen Era

The cabin has undergone a major transformation with the introduction of the standard Superscreen setup. This comprises three 12.3-inch displays—instrumentation, central touchscreen, and a passenger-side touchscreen—flanked by redesigned air vents. The vehicle now runs on the MB.OS platform, allowing for over-the-air software updates, while retaining the familiar MBUX interface and an enhanced Virtual Assistant capable of more complex functions.

For audiophiles, the optional 15-speaker Burmester sound system has been upgraded to 710W output (from 590W), with new 3D speakers integrated into the roof. Even the base system receives a boost to 150W. Additional luxury features include a standard panoramic glass roof and an available air suspension system with cloud-based predictive damping and an improved 360-degree camera.

Engine Updates: Performance and Emissions

All GLE engines have been updated, but the flagship 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GLE 580 4Matic has received the most substantial changes. A new flat-plane crank, revised injectors, turbos, and exhaust system increase power to 395kW and torque to 750Nm, representing a notable improvement over the current model. The 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six in the GLE 450 4Matic also sees an increase in torque to 560Nm thanks to a new electric compressor. The plug-in hybrid GLE 450e 4Matic now boasts a larger electric motor and a 106km WLTP EV range.

AMG Variants: Hybrid Power Takes Center Stage

Two AMG models are included in the updated lineup. Both utilize a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six producing 330kW and 600Nm, paired with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ benefits from a mild-hybrid system, adding up to 17kW/205Nm for a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds. The range-topping AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ combines this engine with a 135kW electric motor, delivering a total output of 430kW and 750Nm, reducing the sprint to 4.5 seconds. This hybrid model now matches the performance of the V8-powered GLE 580.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift represents a comprehensive refresh, blending advanced technology with enhanced performance. These updates ensure the vehicle remains competitive in the luxury SUV market, prioritizing both driver experience and future-proofing against evolving emissions standards.
