China’s Most Affordable MPV: SGMW Unveils the Xingguang 730

SGMW, Wuling’s parent company, has launched its latest offering in the booming minivan segment: the Xingguang 730. This mid-size MPV boasts an impressive array of features, including a choice between gasoline, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains – all at competitive price points starting from just 73,000 yuan ($10,200 USD).

The Xingguang 730 comes in four configurations, each catering to different needs:

  • Comfort: A 1.5T engine paired with a manual transmission for an economical driving experience (73,000 yuan / $10,200 USD).
  • Elite: The same 1.5T engine but mated to a CVT automatic transmission for smoother shifting (83,800 yuan / $11,700 USD).
  • Luxury PHEV: A plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5L engine and a fourth-generation electric motor, offering both fuel efficiency and electric driving range (103,800 yuan / $14,500 USD).
  • Luxury EV: A pure electric variant powered by a 60 kWh Shenlian battery, delivering an impressive 500km (CLTC) range on a single charge (109,800 yuan / $15,400 USD).

Design and Features: Balancing Functionality and Style

The Xingguang 730 embraces Wuling’s new design language with a striking front fascia. A large black grille dominates the center, flanked by sleek, narrow headlights for a sophisticated look. Sliding doors cleverly hide their tracks beneath the window line, contributing to the vehicle’s aerodynamic profile. Measuring 4910mm in length, 1850mm wide, and 1770mm tall with a 2910mm wheelbase, it offers ample interior space.

Inside, the cabin is characterized by a contemporary design. A floating instrument cluster and a large 12.8-inch central touchscreen seamlessly integrate technology into the driving experience. The Xingguang 730 takes practicality to another level with vehicle-to-machine connectivity and multi-scenario modes designed for diverse needs: “nap,” “camping,” and “off-car power retention.”

A Comfortable Ride for Everyone

The seven-seat configuration prioritizes passenger comfort. The “2+2+3” layout includes the notable feature of all seats being multi-adjustable. The front seats recline up to 180 degrees, transforming into convenient beds for resting on long journeys. The second row enjoys dual armrests and offers multiple adjustment angles for ultimate personalization.

Storage is another highlight with over 25 thoughtfully placed compartments throughout the vehicle. Notably, the third-row’s “magic folding” mechanism flips cushions upwards and folds down backrests, expanding cargo capacity from 315 liters to a generous 1202 liters. Interior color schemes range from the warm Walnut Brown to the inviting Warm Sand Brown.

Powertrain Choices for Every Driver:

The Xingguang 730 appeals to a wide range of driving preferences with its diverse powertrain options. The PHEV utilizes Lingxi Power 3.0, combining a 1.5L engine with an efficient electric motor system. This setup provides an impressive combined range of 1100km (CLTC), along with fuel efficiency of 5.3L/100km when the battery is depleted. The pure electric variant boasts a powerful 100 kW (134 hp) motor and supports rapid 2C charging, replenishing 200km of range in just 15 minutes.

For traditional gasoline power, the Xingguang offers a 1.5T engine generating 174 hp. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission for driving dynamics to suit individual tastes.

The SGMW Xingguang 730’s strategic blend of affordability, versatility, and modern features positions it as a strong contender in China’s competitive MPV market. Its wide range of powertrain options caters to diverse customer needs while the numerous thoughtful design elements enhance practicality and comfort.
