Skoda Peaq: New Electric Crossover Aims for Hyundai Ioniq 9 Market

12

Skoda’s upcoming three-row electric crossover, now officially named the Peaq, has been spotted in prototype testing. The vehicle, previewed by the Vision 7S concept, is set to launch this summer and will compete directly with the Hyundai Ioniq 9 in the family EV space. Recent spy shots reveal a design that closely mirrors the concept, though still under light camouflage.

Exterior Design Details

The Peaq’s front end features angular air curtains and a distinctive trapezoidal lower intake. Skoda is employing camouflage to obscure its new “Tech‑Deck Face,” which appears to resemble the Vision 7S concept’s styling. The headlights are notably C-shaped and connected by a lower light band, though the current design is likely masked by the prototype’s disguise.

The vehicle’s profile showcases slender A-pillars, a long sloping roofline, and an expansive greenhouse. Flush-mounted door handles and pronounced wheel arches add to the modern aesthetic. The rear design incorporates a stylish liftgate with a trapezoidal accent and a spoiler. The taillight graphics are currently hidden but expected to feature T-shaped lighting units matching the front.

Interior and Platform Expectations

While spy shots haven’t captured the interior, Skoda has emphasized that the Peaq will prioritize spaciousness and practicality for seven passengers. The vehicle is positioned as the brand’s flagship model, suggesting a relatively upscale cabin experience.

The Peaq will be built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, meaning it will likely share powertrain options with other EVs in the group. Expect a range of electric motors and battery sizes. The concept model suggested an 89 kWh battery pack, which could translate to a real-world range exceeding 373 miles (600 km). Fast charging at around 200 kW is also probable.

Performance and Competition

Skoda may draw inspiration from the Enyaq, which offers dual-motor all-wheel-drive systems with up to 335 hp. However, the Peaq could incorporate more advanced and efficient motors. The competition with the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be direct, as both vehicles target families needing a large, practical electric crossover.

The Peaq represents Skoda’s commitment to expanding its EV lineup with a high-end, spacious model, directly challenging the growing segment of three-row electric SUVs.
