Sony Honda Mobility is preparing for a major push at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next year, with plans to display a near-production version of their first electric vehicle, the Afeela, alongside a currently undisclosed concept model. This move signals the company is moving steadily toward its 2026 delivery target.
Afeela 1: Specs and Pricing
The Afeela 1 is set to launch with a base price of $89,900, with the higher-spec Signature trim starting at $102,900. Both models will feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system delivering a combined 483 horsepower. Power comes from a 91 kWh battery promising a range of up to 300 miles (483 km).
Despite adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, the Afeela’s DC fast-charging capability is capped at 150 kW – slower than many competitors. The Signature trim adds features like 21-inch wheels, dual 12.9-inch rear seat displays, wireless charging, and a digital rearview mirror.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
The Afeela 1 will come equipped with 40 sensors – including cameras, radars, and LiDAR – to support a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. This suggests a focus on automated driving features, though the extent of these capabilities remains unclear.
The New Concept: What It Means
Beyond the Afeela prototype, Sony Honda Mobility will unveil a new concept vehicle. The company has not revealed details, but states the vehicle is intended to demonstrate their commitment to brand evolution. This suggests an exploration of future designs, technologies, or market segments beyond the initial Afeela model.
The combined debut of the nearly-ready Afeela and an entirely new concept reinforces Sony Honda Mobility’s intent to rapidly establish itself in the competitive EV market. The company is betting on its technological expertise and brand recognition to stand out in a crowded field.
