Toyota Aygo X Hybrid: Pricing, Specs, and What You Need to Know

8

Toyota has unveiled the pricing and specifications for the 2026 Aygo X Hybrid, its smallest hybrid model to date. Orders open on December 1st, with trims starting at £21,595 for the Icon, rising to £26,895 for the GR Sport variant. This positions the new hybrid at a higher price point compared to rivals like the Fiat 500 Hybrid, which is expected to begin around £19,000. Current Aygo X models are available with discounts of up to £4,000 through Toyota’s Buy A Car service, offering a more affordable alternative for those willing to forgo the latest features.

New Features and Trims

The Aygo X Hybrid replaces the previous non-hybrid version, bringing with it a host of upgrades as standard. These include diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch driver display, automatic air conditioning, recycled seat upholstery, and two USB-C ports. Higher trims step up the tech further:

  • Design: Adds 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, standard Convenience Pack, and noise cancellation. Priced at £23,695.
  • Excel: Features a 10.5-inch touchscreen and heated front seats. Starting at £26,045.
  • GR Sport: Offers tuned suspension, bespoke wheels, a unique grille, and GR-branded seats. At £26,895 it is the highest trim.

Optional packs include a Convenience Pack (£500) with push-button start and wireless charging, and a Parking Pack (£600) with keyless entry and parking sensors. A Premium Pack (£1,350) adds a retracting canvas roof and a JBL audio system.

Performance and Safety Improvements

The Aygo X Hybrid boasts a significantly improved powertrain. Replacing the old naturally-aspirated engine with a hybrid system results in gains in both performance and efficiency. Toyota claims 78.8mpg combined, a substantial leap from the previous model’s 56.4mpg. Independent tests have even seen figures as high as 86mpg.

The hybrid powertrain delivers 115bhp, enabling a 0-62mph time of 9.2 seconds – a 5.7-second improvement over the last generation Aygo X. Safety features have also been enhanced, with the addition of adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, driving assist, pre-collision assist, and lane keep assist. The previous Aygo X scored four stars in Euro NCAP testing in 2022, and this new hybrid model may perform better due to these added safety features.

The Aygo X Hybrid represents a notable upgrade over its predecessor in terms of efficiency, performance, and technology. However, the increased price point positions it in a more competitive segment, particularly when compared to alternatives like the Fiat 500 Hybrid.
