Volvo is enhancing its EX30 electric SUV with a new entry-level powertrain and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, making the compact EV even more versatile. The upgrades, which include software improvements, will be pushed to existing owners via over-the-air updates. The company is also expanding trim options with new interior designs and more Black Edition variants.
New Powertrain Options
The EX30 now offers a third powertrain choice: a 148-horsepower single-motor setup paired with either a 51- or 69-kWh battery pack. This addition expands the model’s appeal by offering a more affordable entry point, with estimated ranges between 179 and 251 miles (WLTP cycle). The Cross Country trim, known for its rugged design, can now be configured with the rear-wheel-drive powertrain, although likely limited to the 268-hp variant.
Vehicle-to-Load Capability
The EX30 is gaining vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing owners to use the car’s battery to power external devices. This feature, already built into the hardware, will be activated via an over-the-air update. V2L turns the EX30 into a mobile power source for camping, worksites, or emergency situations.
Interior and Software Updates
Inside, the EX30 receives an updated user interface with a customizable content bar and improved controls for easier access to functions. New interior themes are also available: the Harvest theme featuring recycled materials and the Black Edition with Nordico upholstery. Both the infotainment system and V2L feature will be available to current EX30 owners through OTA updates.
U.S. Availability
While these updates have been announced on Volvo’s global media site, the availability of specific features in the U.S. market remains unconfirmed. A Volvo spokesperson declined to comment on plans for the 2027 models sold stateside, but styling tweaks and OTA updates are expected to arrive. The 148-hp powertrain may not be available in the U.S.
Volvo is pushing to make the EX30 a more competitive and practical EV, and these upgrades demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement through software updates and expanded feature sets. The V2L capability, in particular, could be a significant selling point for those who value versatility and self-sufficiency.
