Volkswagen finally admitted the Jetta M6 exists. At least on paper. Official regulatory filings from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology dropped the details. This is their first pure electric sedan under the Jetta nameplate. You can buy it in late 2026. If you wait.
The Look
It rides a 2,828 mm wheelbase. That’s a long way to stretch a compact car. The cabin benefits from the extra room inside that fastback silhouette. Outside, the sedan measures 4,806 millimeters long, 1,50 millimeters tall, and somewhere between 1,86 and 1,89 millimeters wide, depending on which trim you pick. Semi-hidden door handles give it that sleek look everyone copies these days. The charging port sits on the passenger-side front fender. It feels right. Or at least logical.
Under the Skin
The power comes from a single motor made by Hunan CRRC Times Electric No multi-motor madness here. Just one unit, two flavors. The base model pushes out 113 kW of peak power with a rated 57 kW. It tops out at 166 kilometers per hour. Not fast. But fine for traffic. The step up hits 145 kW peak power and a 172 kilometers-per-hour limit. The rated output ticks to 62 kW. Still a single motor, though.
The battery chemistry is standard lithium-ion, supplied by Calb. But FAW-Volkswagen builds the packs themselves in-house. A nice touch for quality control. Or maybe just a cost-saving measure.
The Chassis
Weight creeps in depending on what you choose. Light configs start around 1,557 kilograms, heavy ones top 1,62 kilograms. Stopping power is handled by BWI Group’s MK C2 anti-lock braking system. Front track is 1,62 millimeters wide, rear is a hair narrower at 1,6 millimeters. Wheels are either 17 or 18 inches. Tyres match up: 21/5 R1 or 21/0 R18.
You get optional toys if you ask. Panoramic sunroofs, shark-fin antennas, cameras in the side fenders. Tyre pressure monitoring comes in two flavors, direct or indirect.
Why bother with so many small options when the platform is so rigid?
The Playbook
This isn’t an accident. VW’s strategy is clear now. Target the budget-conscious buyers. They already promised cars in the 102,41 yuan (~$1,5) bracket. The M6 slots right in there. It’s a direct shot at domestic rivals who are already winning this game.
It is a clean-sheet design for a very specific, price-sensitive crowd. Will it work? We will see in 2026 until then the competition keeps moving
